Baby Massage

0to19torbay.co.uk/events/

Baby massage is a short course for parents where you can learn how to massage different parts of your baby's body.

Massage can help your baby with the symptoms of colic, aid digestion and regulate their sleep. It is also a great way to relax, have fun and spend quality time together using music, simple songs and nursery rhymes.

This course is suitable for babies between the ages of 3 - 6 months old. As with all of courses there is no charge. At the moment we can only offer baby massage to new mums whose health professional has referred them.

Understanding your baby

inourplace.co.uk

‘Understanding your baby’ is for everyone around a new baby: supporting you and the new arrival from birth to 12 months.

This course gives you information about your baby's brain development and your baby's physical and emotional development. It shows how important your relationship with the baby is for the baby's development.

It integrates the traditional information given on a postnatal course with this new approach to developing your relationship with your baby. It looks at your baby’s sleeping, feeding, crying, playing and childcare options.

If you have already done the Solihull Approach antenatal course 'Understanding pregnancy' you may recognise some of the Units about feelings and support, You may want to think about this again, now you have your baby. If you are a Dad you may recognise parts of the Module for fathers, but you may want to look at the Units again.

Skin to skin contact

unicef.org.uk/babyfriendly/baby-friendly-resources/implementing-standards-resources/skin-to-skin-contact/

Skin to skin contact helps the baby to adjust to life outside the womb and is highly important for supporting mothers to initiate breastfeeding and to develop a close, loving relationship with their baby.

Skin-to-skin contact is usually referred to as the practice where a baby is dried and laid directly on their mother’s bare chest after birth, both of them covered in a warm blanket and left for at least an hour or until after the first feed. Skin-to-skin contact can also take place any time a baby needs comforting or calming and to help boost a mother’s milk supply. Skin-to-skin contact is also vital in neonatal units, where it is often known as ‘kangaroo care’, helping parents to bond with their baby, as well as supporting better physical and developmental outcomes for the baby.

"Just wanted to say thanks very much for the use of the Calypso breast pump, it's been fantastic. The pump is really simple to use, very portable and quiet. It has meant that I have been able to express milk for baby and her dad has been able to feed her so I can have a few hours rest or even nip out the shops by myself. I think it's a really good bonding experience for fathers to be able to feed their babies and at the same time give the mothers a much needed rest!
